Working with Manifesting Generators

The Train Sometimes Leaves the Station Without All the Cars

When I think of these past 6 weeks of being on a new real estate team with two Manifesting Generators, it reminds me of a quote I once read from Ra Uru Hu about the relationship between Projectors and Generators. It went something like this…

(paraphrased) – Once the Projector is invited into a relationship by the Generator it is up to the Projector to grow and nurture the connection.

This bit of insight from Ra has been my guiding light since entering into this team. It has been a great ride so far with lots of twists and turns, brief pauses to reflect and changes in direction.

The team leader (we’ll call her Amy) is a pure Manifesting Generator, meaning that she has the 34/20 channel which runs directly from the sacral center to the throat.

Her husband (we’ll call him Scott), is the administrative person and back up buyer’s agent. He is a Generator with manifesting tendencies. He doesn’t have the 34/20 channel of a pure Manifesting Generator. He has the 12/22 from the solar plexus to the throat. The difference in their energies is palpable. Scott is very laid back. He’s charming and great with clients, but only wants to have contact with them when he is in the mood. … This is a typical 12/22 trait … which is why I am now the primary buyer’s agent. Amy is much more energetic, not only because of the 34/20 channel which brings work energy to the throat, but also because she has all of her other motors, the root, the solar plexus and the will center defined.

When we started our journey together we decided to try to do certain things consistently for a limited amount of time. In pure 3/5 profile style (which we all have) we approached our first hundred days together as an experiment in developing new routines and finding our unique way of supporting each other as a team. Consequently we discovered much that hasn’t worked, like a regular daily routine where we do the same thing in the same place with each other among other things.

The main thing I learned right away is how to roll with the quick changes that a Manifestor Generator can make. During our first week together I got a text from Amy as I was going out the door to our regularly scheduled daily morning time in the office. She was letting me know to come dressed and ready to participate in a promotional video. This was the first I heard of it. She apparently decided in her head that it would be a great day to do a video, but was moving so fast that she hadn’t told anyone… not me and not even Scott! It was Scott who reminded her that she was “leaving the station without all the cars”.  I’m really flexible, so this was no big deal for me. I just put on some extra blush and rushed out the door. Amy was very apologetic when she realized what she did.

This experience was a defining moment for me in understanding how a Manifesting Generator truly works. She hadn’t intentionally skipped a step. She just responded so quickly to the opportunity to shoot the video that it seemed to catapult her forward before she had a chance to bring everyone else along. She didn’t mean to leave the station without all the cars. Her engine just lurched her ahead.

So much has changed on our team in these few short weeks we have been together. We let go of most of our original experiments. We have switched some of the business that we started out associating with. We quickly discovered that the routine that we agreed to try wasn’t working form us. Much to my relief and Amy’s too, we no longer feel that we need to keep regular office hours. Amy’s routine was always to work from home, and so was mine. We also gave up the office space, preferring to meet in coffee houses where we can relax and feel free to chat without interruptions.

The biggest challenge I had when some of these routines began to shift, was feeling like I was staying connected and informed. After several cancelled “regularly scheduled” team meetings, I needed to speak up about how I felt and help guide the process of how and when we meet into a more workable format. For us that no longer meant every Tuesday at 10:00 am. It means meeting over coffee on a day and time that feels good for all of us several times a month. In between, we text, email and call to keep each other informed as we’re each doing our thing for the team.

The 34/20 channel of the Manifesting Generator is part of the individual circuitry of the Human Design chart. Amy has this along with other gates which assist me in feeling empowered when I’m around her. As we concluded our meeting today she commented on how much more free she feels without all of the restrictions that “the experts” wanted her to try as a team leader. She feels free to be who she is and work in the way that feels authentic to her.  I echoed her feelings with my appreciation for having that freedom as well. I am free to set my own schedule and work in spurts… as I am designed to do. And now that I have provided some gentle guidance about what I need in order to feel connected to the team, I feel even more secure in my freedom.

BTW I am still very much involved in Human Design Life Coaching. As I learn and grow from my experiences in real estate I’m also getting clearer about the focus of my coaching work. If you want to know more about where I’m headed and how you can ride along, check out Harmonious Work & Life

ROI – My Phrase for 2017

MH900363514Every year, as I contemplate the energies at the beginning, a word or phrase comes to me which contains a theme. This theme is my reference point for how I align the perception of my experiences for the next 12 months. My phrase this year is particularly significant to me as a  Human Design Projector, because it points to the need to develop a deeper awareness about how to manage my personal energy and resources.

ROI – Return on Investment

When this term first came to me back in December, I thought it was all about business. As it turns out ROI applies to all aspects of life. As a Projector who is aware of her human design, the practice of considering the return on my investment of energy and focus is proving to be quite valuable.

Now that I have a career in the mainstream world that puts me in contact with the public on a regular basis, I’m finding it essential to consider my ROI in times when I’m tempted to push too hard or resist the cues from my body to rest. Like a lot of Projectors, I will often feel the need for a nap or a break in the afternoon. When the body speaks and I give myself permission to honor it, I get a significant return on my investment. The rest time multiplies my energy for the balance of the day. My head is clearer and I can be present to the things that are most important. If I ignore my body’s message to rest, the return on my investment is poor. I usually become increasingly unproductive and cranky as the day wears on.

ROI in Business for Projectors

Have you noticed that things that work for others in business don’t seem to work as well for Projectors? When the inconsistent energy to work is coupled with not having motorized energy to speak and be heard, it would seem that, as Projectors, we are at a disadvantage in the traditional business world. At first glance it would seem so, but here’s what I’m discovering…

Less is more than enough when you’re in the right environment with the right people.

At the first of this year I joined a small real estate team with the right people who have the motorized energy to do the heavy work of “lead generation”, selling, paperwork etc. That’s not to say that I don’t do anything. When a qualified buyer is ready to purchase a home I get to do what I do best as a buyer specialist … guide the home purchasing process so that my clients get the best deal and have the smoothest transaction possible. As a Projector, I’m the advisor and guide … for our buyers and also for the two Generators on the team. My job is to…

  • Master the home purchasing system
  • Ask the right questions
  • Provide the best guidance to achieve the goal (of the buyer and the team)

So before I engage in any activity with my team, I ask myself three questions to insure that I get a good return on my investment of energy

  1. Is this mine to do?
  2. Is this the right time to do it?
  3. Is this the most efficient way to do it?

As challenging as it is to avoid succumbing to the voices of “You should be doing more” in my head, I have managed to stay in the waiting and preparation space, so that I don’t waste my energy before it’s time to use it.

In this first month on my team I have spent a lot of time clarifying my role, so that my undefined G center doesn’t take on what’s not mine to do… and my undefined will center isn’t tempted to get in the middle of stuff just to prove that I’m valuable.

In the promotion and marketing arena, much of my time and energy has gone to discerning who I need to connect with to build my own presence and credibility. Not every networking group is for me. Not every business person or potential buyer is going to see me and value me for what I bring to the table. And as a 3/5 Projector, I am probably going to meet the right people by bumping into them or being introduced by the team.

My team and I have also spent a significant amount of time reviewing and streamlining our work processes… clearing out clutter, refining our tracking and communication systems, reviewing software that may enhance efficiency.

Here is a subtle dynamic that I just realized which relates to communication and invitation. Because I get first right of refusal to work with buyers, I am essentially being invited into each transaction by my team.  In other words when someone comes to our team for help in purchasing a home, I am asked whether or not I want to work with that buyer. This enables me to use my splenic authority to discern whether or not it feels correct for me. Believe it or not, I did turn down an invitation, because my spleen wasn’t feeling it. That’s not how I consciously processed the experience in the moment, but that was actually the process I used. The reason I’m sharing this experience is because it sheds light on an important quality of a correct invitation… The people who are inviting you accept you and your decisions without pressure or judgement. In spite of all of the potential mind chatter that threatened to arise within me when I turned down the buyer, there was no judgement from my team. My decision was fully respected.

One thing that really helped me to understand how to work more efficiently in alignment with my energy type, was a BG5 Career Consultation. I had a very valuable private session with Barbara Ditlow, a Certified BG5 Consultant who is also a Realtor. She gave me some terrific advice, which was based in what she saw in my Human Design Chart. Although I had already ordered and studied the full BG5 report and taken the Foundation Course, her detailed reading and wise counsel really helped me cement in some pieces to make my career approach more powerful.

As Projectors, our best ROI is virtually guaranteed when we follow our strategy of waiting, watching and being invited into things which are correct for us according to our authority. Beyond that, there is also a need for us non-sacral beings to be mindful of how we use and invest the energy that we have at our access.

So dear Projector…

Are you clear about what is yours to do?

Do you have a good feel for the correct timing of your actions?

Are you using your energy efficiently and effectively?

You’re invited to leave comments about your insights on ROI here. Or contact me if you want to refine your energy management skills (I do still do private consultations)

Living Your Design for Projectors

Andrea Abay-Abay is starting another Living Your Design Awakening Program for Projectors on November 3rd.

Andrea is a Projector who works for Jovian Archive.  Her course is the first course you would take on their training path.

You will not only learn about the Projector experience, but you will get a great overview about the Human Design System and the other types.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1480667622263034/

Watch her video here:

“What made this class unique is that Andrea made all the information about the other design types pertinent to Projectors.  Projectors  are here for others, so it is crucial that we understand others.  It is also crucial that we understand how to manage ourselves in the midst of others.  This includes being aware of how we are susceptible to the conditioning of other energy types.”

Productivity Ideas for Human Design Projectors

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This post is mostly for the Projectors who work from home or in a single person office. Have you ever noticed that when there are no people around with a defined sacral center you tend to be less productive? That’s not entirely a bad thing as you may suspect, if you have released the mainstream view that working longer and harder is better and have accepted that you are not designed to work consistently. But just because you don’t have consistency in your work energy doesn’t mean that you can’t be productive.

I have been struggling with productivity and energy issues for most of the summer. Part of that is because I needed to rest more than I really knew. And part of my own productivity issues had to do with the universal issues that all people who work from home probably have. The bottom line is that it is time to exercise my innate ability (as a non-sacral being) to be wise about managing the energy to work. We usually think that Projectors use this gift of managing, guiding and directing for the benefit of others, but at least in my 3/5 profile experience, I have to experiment with it myself before I can share what I learned with others.

So in my 3/5 style, here is what I found doesn’t work about working from home or working entirely alone…

There is less structure when an outside routine is not imposed upon you. This can be a blessing for Projectors in some respects, because when you need to take a break or a nap you can. And no one is there to judge you.

There are distractions to draw you away from your primary focus. I live in a neighborhood of retirees and in a house with a cat and a dog. So my summer work days were filled with phone calls from neighbors who want to give me vegetables from their garden or who are just checking on me because they hadn’t seen me emerge from the house in days. (And I admit it. There were some stretches when I got caught so caught up in running around in circles that I didn’t know when to turn off the computer and go outside.) It’s endearing to know that people care. But my compulsion to respect, honor and graciously accept the generosity of my elders interrupted my focus (what little there was at times) on a regular basis. Couple that with a dog who protects me with her sudden loud barks at random walkers passing by, and a needy, cuddly cat who demands attention, and it’s a wonder that anything got done.

The coffee pot and refrigerator are too accessible.  What do you do when you start on a project that seems overwhelming?  I found myself taking breaks every 10 minutes for a cup of coffee or a snack.  And inevitably a snack would turn into tidying up the kitchen or running the vacuum or remembering that I had laundry downstairs that needed to be folded.

It’s too easy to put things off.  When you have so much freedom in your day that one hour runs into the next it’s tempting to hop from thing to thing with the idea that you can come back to the challenging stuff later.  Sometimes coming back takes a long time.

You enjoy your life less.  At least that was my experience.  Work tasks overflowed into downtime.  The things I put off had to be done some time, so why not at 9:00 at night when I was planning to put my feet up and relax… or when I could have been outside enjoying the sunshine?

One thing I didn’t fully realize when I planned on a summer without much distraction from my defined sacral family members, was that I needed to manage my workflow with more awareness and wisdom.

Up until this summer there had always been a structure of people coming and going at regular times which I could use as a guide for how to structure my days.  There was sacral energy in the house that I had taken for granted.  And while I had to guard against the exhaustion of amplifying all of that energy, I still had it, along with the presence of others to help me order my days.

So here’s what I’m trying now to bring more structure, focus and productivity into my work life. I’m experimenting with taking my laptop to the public library for a few hours a day.  In fact I’m writing this from a well lit table designed for laptops which is near a bright cheery window.  This is the second day I have done this.  And while I know that this won’t be a 5 day a week, 9-5 routine, what I have been able to get done in a day and a few hours has been way more prolific and powerful than a week of working from home this summer.

This is why I feel this new approach might work…

I can work in a spurt. Projectors are really great at working in spurts.  The library is a perfect venue for spurt working as far as I can tell.  It’s not too comfortable, but comfortable enough.  I can’t just get up and get a cup of coffee or make myself a sandwich whenever I want.  I have to plan my time and be very focused at it.

I have incentive to take regular breaks.  Because the library doesn’t allow refreshments… and I even have to pack up my laptop to go to the bathroom, I’m forced to take breaks between spurts of work.  And when I take a break I really have to leave…. go outside … go somewhere else.

There is ample sacral energy.  As I write this there are 5 people sitting around me.  My guess is that the good majority of them are Generator types.  So I can sit here for a short period of time and amplify all the work-force energy I need to complete my tasks.  Then I can leave and discharge it.

So that’s my current experiment with productivity. A simple post like this, which might have taken me 2 or 3 hours to write, is now complete is little over an hour!

I have awesome things in the works for you and my business.  My work is not really work when I manage the energy of it in a way that keeps me engaged rather than distracted.  I love it and it feeds me.  And when I am productive it produces amazing fruit for you as well.  Do you feel the same way about your work?  What do you do to manage the energy dips, exhaustion and distractions which can keep you from the full love of what you are here to do?

The Importance of Recognition for Human Design Projectors

This is a personal share about an epiphany I had over the weekend.  Human Design Projectors are here to realize success by being recognized and invited by the right people into the things which allow them to use their gifts and talents to manage, guide and direct.  That’s not the epiphany.  As I’m sure that if you have been studying your design for a while, you already know this.  Success and the recognition / invitations which follow, usually come from mastering a system.  That’s not the epiphany either.  You, like me, may have studied and mastered a lot of systems.  But if something is missing for you, something that makes you feel like you’re not in a place where you fully live in the success you have achieved, this epiphany may make things clearer for you.

Here’s my epiphany:

It’s important as a Projector to have formal recognition for the system you master.  Maybe if you have a lot of individual circuitry in your chart this is not so important (I’m not sure). But I realized this weekend, while sharing Human Design at a ministerial conference where a few ministers were being awarded Doctoral degrees, that it’s not enough for me to master what I study.  I actually need to be formally recognized for it among people who truly see me…. a room full of flesh and bones people who are there to celebrate my success and really get what it means to have achieved the accomplishment.  Maybe you already know this and have done this.  For me it was a deep recognition of myself and what I know at the core of my heart to be the missing piece to feeling ultimately successful.

group recognition

For years I denied that need… perhaps not even recognizing that it was a need … because I kept trying to believe that the formal recognition and celebration aren’t important.  And meanwhile I moved from thing to thing, mastering to a certain degree this technique and that approach, but never getting to where I felt I arrived.  It’s the story of the gate 48 … studying everything under the sun because you don’t feel you know enough.  The truth is I have felt that I have known enough for quite a while actually, but a persistent sense of incompletion has nagged me ever since I quit a Masters Degree program midstream 30 years ago to lick the wounds of a broken heart.  All of these years I have managed to realize some success through studies that allowed me to work around not having that one piece of paper that says “Yes I do know what I know and I mastered it”. As time went on, the formalized programs which would give me the opportunity to complete that degree stopped speaking to me.  And that’s where I picked up the belief that perhaps the recognition wasn’t important.

Then as I sat in that room with those Doctoral candidates over the weekend, the understanding came.  I am a master already, but not one that formalized academic study would recognize without me jumping through a whole bunch of other hoops and overworking myself to learn things I don’t care about to prove what I already know.  This is not something my deconditioning undefined will center feels like doing.  But still the need for formal recognition exists.  When I attended the Doctoral confirmation ceremony I finally realized that my perspective has been too limited. It’s not that I don’t need the recognition for my mastery, it’s just that the mastery has gone beyond the limits of what I think of as formal recognition.  It’s not that I need to complete a degree… or any degree.  It’s that I need to complete the degree that is reflective of the heights I am achieving.  I need to  be formally celebrated and supported by my people in a way where my gate 48 can’t deny that I’m ready, I know and I’m prepared.

The weekend was filled with recognition like I had never experienced before.  One person even thought that she had ordained me into the ministry last year.  I met people whom I know I was destined to meet.  And I made connections at a deep heart level with people I already know and people I had just met.  And then I remembered the invitation I received over a year ago to become a part of this organization.  At the time, my defined head and ajna rejected it because I am already an ordained minister.   Why would I need another accolade like that?  And now I know that I was not being invited to achieve the accolade but to receive the recognition and support from the right group of people, and to allow myself to be fully acknowledged for the mastery I am attaining.

When I shared with some friends that I am pondering the possibility of getting a Doctorate of Divinity, my left brained finally accepted my need for this type of recognition.  … the right brain was already convinced through the feel of the experience … An advanced degree automatically opens doors that just don’t exist before you get the degree.  For a Projector whose success depends on having doors opened for them, it’s only logical to pursue something that would open those doors.

If you’re waiting on doors to open, it may be that you need to pursue your passions in a way that allow you to receive formal recognition from your people. It may be that you need to achieve new heights, not in what you know, but in how you are recognized for who you are. It could take some time to line this up from the inside… to emerge into your true self and to be seen and invited.  It’s my hope that by sharing this, it won’t take you as long as it took me to accept how important recognition is to your success.

You’re invited to share your experiences with success and formal recognition.  Do you feel you need it in order to succeed?

How to Know When You’re Being Conditioned

Here is a great video from Zeno (a Human Design Projector) about how to recognize when you’re being conditioned.  She starts by talking about how to recognize conditioning in the heart / will center and makes some suggestions about how to deal with it. Zeno brings up a very valuable question in this video.

“How are you reacting to being conditioned?”

Conditioning is a fact of life.  We are all conditioned, either by others or by the transits, all the time.  Awareness of how you are reacting to being conditioned is a key to successfully dealing with the Projector not-self theme of bitterness.  Mismanaged conditioning is a huge source of pain for all Human Design types.  And for Projectors it can fuel bitterness to the point where it throws you out of balance with your true nature.

In the Bitterness to Joy Program you get to explore how you are reacting to conditioning  in your life (past and present) in order to understand how it is fueling your bitterness.

Is bitterness keeping you from your joy?

You’re invited to join us for the Bitterness to Joy Program!

Human Design G Authority

On our last Human Design Projector teleconference there were some questions about the G or Self Authority. When you have a G authority the correctness of your decision can be heard powerfully in your voice.  Here is a video from John Martin which explains G authority very clearly.

Undefined Sacral Gone Wild – Projector Exhaustion

You have probably figured out that as a Human Design Projector with an undefined or open sacral center it’s really difficult to know when enough is enough.  This note was roughed out last week while I was waiting for my car to be serviced.  It is an attempt to chronicle and share my experience with Projector exhaustion before the freshness of it left me.

Thursday February 4, 2014

It is Thursday morning.  My undefined sacral has been on a binge of activity since 3:45 am on Wednesday.  In the past 30 hours I have had about 9 hours of sleep… 5 hours last night and 4 hours the night before.  But instead of feeling that I am at the crashing point I feel more like I’m compulsively driven to keep going.  This is a dangerous place for a Human Design Projector.  My undefined sacral could easily continue to take in and amplify the sacral energy of others, eventually burning me completely out, if I let it.  I will not let that happen, because I am aware of the dynamic, and will bring myself down to a place of balance over the next couple of days.  But first permit me to share how this happened….

My Generator husband, who works away from home 3 weeks at a time, had to leave on a 5:20 flight on Wednesday morning.  I am his designated driver.  So at 3:45 we were up and headed for the car.  When I returned home I immediately went back to bed, but was unable to sleep.  My Manifesting Generator stepson who is a senior in high school, was up early doing his homework.  Even though he was doing his best to be quiet, the energy of his 3 motors which connect to his throat permeated the house.  There was no way I was going back to sleep.  It turned out that my stepson did’t feel well, and as the sun rose, he needed to discuss his need to go to the doctor and stay home from school.

exhausted catI normally have a ritual on “change-over day”… the day my husband goes back to work, which involves resting, rebooting and doing a general energy cleanse of his sacral influence.  It requires that I have at least a few hours alone during the day to discharge and release energy.  Needless to say that didn’t happen.  Here’s what did happen … Being all revved up from exhaustion and the extra infusion of motorized energy in the house (from my stepson’s unexpected stay at home) I was extremely active during the day.  When I get over-tired I get really active (unless my root pulse goes off … which it didn’t).  So Thursday was filled with activity.  I even took our dog for a long walk, did grocery shopping and created a video.  Well around midnight I finally made myself get ready for bed.  But guess what happened when I got in bed?  You guessed it… I couldn’t sleep!  It was after 1:00 when I finally got to sleep.  And just like clockwork, our dog awakened me at 7:00 this morning to go outside.

As I lay in bed early this morning trying to grab a few more moments of rest before getting up for my car appointment, I had that scrambled in the head kind of feeling … like part of my brain was on overdrive, part of it was sleeping and part of it was sputtering on and off.  I knew I pushed myself past the point of no return.  It feels like my body just isn’t right… like my ability to think and be alert is only partially functioning.  My body is tired but feels unable to slow down.  In general it feels like all my parts are sputtering along in several different directions.  A total collapse would feel welcome at this point, but that’s not how it normally goes for me.  It’s like I have to car that lost it’s brakes down a steep hill for a while until I can find a place to pull over. If I don’t pull myself gently over, I will have a total collapse which will take weeks for me to recover.

So I could blame my imbalance and exhaustion on my husband’s early flight, or the presence of my stepson when I needed alone time.  But, truth be told, I set myself up way ahead of time.  A week before my husband’s departure I got lazy about sleeping in my own space, and decided to sleep in the same bed with my husband.  (If you didn’t know about sleeping alone to keep your aura clear … it is really worth the experiment)  Sometimes I can get away with this practice when I go to bed several hours before my night owl husband and awaken and get out of bed several hours before him.  But this time our clocks were synchronized and I was retiring later and sleeping later than usual.  So by the time we got to Tuesday night (the night before he left) when we had to go to bed early, I had trouble sleeping.  I attempted to unwind before he came to bed, but it was too late.  I could feel how I wasn’t ready to sleep.  And I could feel how his motorized energy was affecting me.  I could feel how my energy field wasn’t fully discharged.  The truth was that, because I had not been discharging my energy all along I was half full already!

So the moral of the story? … Practice impeccable self-care and sleep hygiene at all times…

Exhaustion on couch

I know… easier said than done right?  Well the next best thing I can do is to turn this around before it gets too much more out of hand.  The next 2 days are going to be recalibration days where I consciously unplug, bring myself down and discharge my “undefined sacral gone wild” It starts with an epsom salts bath when I get home …. doing only what absolutely needs to be done in my business and around the house…. getting to sleep early tonight  by getting cozy in bed waaaayyyy before my planned bedtime… relaxing and drinking chamomile tea.  Then tomorrow morning I will spend a luxurious amount of time in bed… reading … relaxing … stretching… then follow up with another epsom salt bath.  And what about the presence of the triple motorized Manifesting Generator?  My sweet, sensitive stepson got a tv for his bedroom for Christmas …hallelujah!  One of these days I’ll write about how he actually needs all that noise and activity to thrive.  But for tonight I will ask him to take his activity to his room so I can have some space to come back to me.
